Muscular Liberalismsounds good but like all ideas can turn into something else, a case in point is Cameron jumping on the Merkel band waggon to use it as a platform from which to promote a British Identity. That might be fine re migrants to England but what about the Cymry/Welsh who might not want to be 'British' and what about migrants who come and live and work in Cymru/Wales particularly those who move to Cymru Cymraeg', not least the English? This is all brought up now with the issue of Islamic fundmentalism causing concern and growing Muslim Migration into Britain indeed throughout Europe that is causing great concern even in the Liberal Nordic countries. There as elsewhere issues are now being raised concerning 'Free Speech', a subject exploited by Right Wing Parties as the Danish Peoples Party whom really makes such central to their opposition to Muslim Migration and spread of Islam. However, whislt I am concerned about use and abuse of such issues by the right, I am not one to bury my head and not be critical of Islamic Fundamentalism nor not speak up in case it might be made out to me seen to offend a minority interest be they Muslims or maybe English settlers in Cymru/Wales or for that matter my pet hate 'Y Crachach Newydd' - England's Client Tribe in Wales.
Muscular Liberalism especially as Cameron wants to use it to brainwash us all into being 'British' bothers me and sounds a bit bullying, after all were not the 'Liberal Educators' of Imperialism nought but progressive colonists. See examples of Missionaries as Educators in particular not least in case of Native Americans and most certainly regards Hawaii regards the native Liberal Revolt against the traditional native monarchy. The same will be true of the British Empire where not only religion was used as a progressive liberal good but with ulterior motives but so were the 'Master Race' sports as Cricket and Rugby, though the Colonised have turned they around. Though today Football has become an Imperialist/Capitalist Commercial Colonising tool, not least in Africa. However, it is with the liberal progressive export of English Culture, not least stuffing Shakespeare down native throats that attention needs to be also drawn to, not least in Cymru/Wales where the 'Luvees' just love sucking up that Shakespeare stuff!.

At end of day, I think it boils down to this Europe has learnt the hard way about Religious Fundmentalism/Extremism, yes Religion can do good but as far as Christianity is concerned that is best seen today as it declines, As with what was once called the 'New Left', now in decline it needs to pander to the poor or exploited underprivellaged or minority ethnic interests to build it self a constituency and platform. Prior to this Christianity was hi jacked to serve the remaining days of Roman Imperialism and historically offers a Medieval Master Class in power and tyrrany. Plenty of Cathedrals built on exploited backs of serfs and also Crusades against Pagans, Cathars and Muslims just for starters, later 'Hereitics' and 'Witches' too. Oh yes! might not have stoned women to death for adultry but they could get beheaded or have heavy stones placed on their chests untill suffocated. However, it took the last 500 years of gradual secularism of society via education, establishment of democracy and yeas advance of liberal and progressive political values to 'nueter' and kick into touch as often as not Christian religious extremism which can still lead men to slaughter because God was on their side! be it on the Somme or in Bosnia.
