If Wales had been Independant how would we have done being a 'Celtic Tiger' and coping with becoming a 'Collapsing Cub', one things for sure I have no doubt that our self serving unimmaginative Politicians would have gone down the same route as Irish Politicians. Then sad to say when the time came for the 'Welsh Tiger' to have it's teeth and claws drawn that would have been a big 'THE END'. We sure as it rains in Wales, that Visit Wales' would have had to be promoting Wales on the tourism trail with the slogan: SEE WALES BEFORE IT DIES! Ireland's present Euro Crisis aside perhaps we should look at how the Welsh Assembly has been useing Euro hand outs, have they spent wisely and has Wales benefited from all the Road Building and Improvements plus all those new Industrial Estates, most empty? then what of all factories closing down and pushing off to Eastern Europe, quite a list. So what exactly is the benefit to Wales of the European Union? But we might as well ask other questions too, as can Wales ever be truelly Independant, if that would be sold out to the European Union re law making for starters, the basis of most nations Sovereignty. Then of course being part of any Euro Zone would as much sell out Sovereignty, not least if we end up owing billions to the E.U. and the I.M.F. who could then dictate how we run our own country. All in all this makes a mockery of Independance and Sovereignty, the twin pillars of any Republic with out which such is meaningless as Ireland is now finding out. As for Welsh Nationalism, I do not mean 'Cultural Nationalism' but if you like the concept of supporting the establishment of a Nation State also may be now meaningless in a Welsh Political context. All of which I will explore further but in the mean time consider well the Irish Crisis and what it means to Irish Independance, Sovereignty and being an Irish Republic? All important to us with a 'More Powers' referendum and WAG election on the way in 2011.
