RUSSIAN MINORITIES IN UKRAINE & LATIVA: THE ENGLISH IN WALES - OUR LARGEST MINORITY - A UNREPRESENTED SILENT MINORITY AT THE MOMENT - BUT WHAT IF?

.......They got like the Ethnic Russian Minorities in the Ukraine and Latvia, that could really spell big trouble for any Welsh Dream of Freedom, by that I mean full self Government. Indeed the question begs to be asked where does this pretty large English unrepresented Minority stand on issue as Devolution and how would they vote in a referendum on more powers for the Assembly in Bae Caerdydd. Some organisation, maybe the IWA or News Paper could do a survey on the oppinions of the English in Wales to find out where they stand on any number of Welsh Issues. I did have a booklet that give figures for the number of those who claimed to be English living in Wales and where they lived, If I remember correctly, Fflintshire was near enough 90% English (a potential 'Succession' here?) whilst Ceredigion had an English Population which was almost 50 - 50 with the native population. The census statistics halfway gives some idea as to the ethnic English Population of Wales as far as I can work out it in 2001 it stood at 20%, if ever this minority began to organise themselves to demand grants for their 'Cultural/language' or 'Racial Rights' or whatever at some future date it could really complicate a great deal regards the politics of Wales.

Little wonder Plaid Cymru did not do well there in the last General Election in certain areas as Ceredigion and, they know it too but just do not want to voice their oppinions too loudly in case they are accused of being 'racist'. it could get worse, just look at what happened in the Ukraine where the Russian Ethnic Minority where able to put one of their own into power as President and whom is now working to take the Ukraine back into the arms of Russia. 1. Of course in Wales, there are at least two Unionist Parties, they being the Conservative Party and Labour Party who have attracted support from the English in Wales since 19th Century. The Liberals in the 19th Century were without doubt a 'Welsh Party' as much as Plaid Cymru is today, this Welsh Liberal Party and in particular it's more Welsh Nationalist Platform 'Cymru Fydd' was bitterly opposed by English Interests in Southern Wales. These 'English Interests' were strong and powerful enough to halt the 'Home Rule For Wales' Train and, get Lloyd George so disillusioned that he gave up exclusive 'Welsh Politics' and packed his bags for bigger things in London.

However, in our own times 'English Minority Interests' in Wales appear to be less opposed to 'all things Welsh', perhaps because there is no threat to
their interests anyway. Generally, they can do as they please economically
and are isolated from any 'Linquistic Threat' by nature of the fact that in rural Wales many new 'English incomers' are quite content with the native cultural way of life. Whilst other new 'English Incomers' can opt out of native cultural society if they wish or live in communities where now there are sufficient numbers of new 'English Incomers' that they are able to establish their own 'English Colonial Communities', be such 'New Age' or just a matter of business. It is interesting that in recent years we have seen 'Cymraeg' contemporary festivals on the wane whilst the more 'Anglicised' festivals are on the rise, even in rural Cymru. I am thinking here of the Green Man, Wake Stock, Pembre and Small Nations (a kind of Womad out West) Festivals. Then there is now a Tolkien Festival in Pontrhydfendigaid of all places, that there is no Mabinogion festival one may put down to 'Y Cymry' being very much in a very restricted Cultural box of folk music and contemporary 'Cymraeg' music in which such as Sain Records have a reason to see predominate as platforms for their music business interests.
