Some ''Retro Welsh Republicans'' are having problems regards matters concerning the British Army and their Welsh Mercenary Regiments. Of course the Welsh have been loyally fighting for the English, in conquest of their own country from 1080's to 1400's, for English causes as at Crecy and Azincourt. Not least for the English Empire from North America to Africa, to India and not least in Ireland. In all this time I can only find a few accounts of the Welsh not happy about Conscription into the English/British Army, the one in 1294 when one of the reasons for National Revolt of that year was the English conscripting them to fight in Scotland. There were a number of occasions when the Welsh in the 16th century were none to happy about fighting in Ireland, and indeed I have record, I am now researching about Welsh actually fighting for the Catholic Irish against the Protestant English (More info to be posted in the Autumn).

It will take many centuries to pass before the Welsh complain and resist again, although there may have been some discontent in the 17th century English Civil war period, it's in the 18th century that we start seeing Anti - Conscription riots. However, Welsh hostility to the English/British Army is not on the same level as Irish opposition, though do note that 1000's of Irish served in English Armies during the Napoleonic Wars and in the first and even the second world war. I can only find one Welsh rebelliousness to British Army during WWI, and that is a mutiny of ''Bolshie Welsh Miners'' serving in the Welsh Regiment, this mutiny takes place in Porthcawl and his over a matter of conditions they have to put up with while waiting to be sent to France. It was however, not just fact that they were stuck on a cold wet common with not tents and awful food, but fact also they used ex - London Bobbies as Sergeants to train them. Yes! rather stupid move by the military after 1910 etc, and use of London coppers to put down strikes by miners.

C'mon Welsh ''Rebel'' Folk singers, if any? how's about a song about this mutiny, to help one and all get into a Welsh Rebel Music tradition, well we have to invent one really. See Irish Rebel Music below, in particular the one titled THE BRITISH ARMY, there is a Welsh Version of this we used to sing, yes! in the 60's. Anyone out there got the words of this, I have lost my copies of Welsh Patriotic Songs.
